Explosion protection concept for manufacturers

Description

According to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, hazards due to explosions must also be taken into account in the risk assessment for new construction/conversion of plants by a general contractor. We support you in the preparation of an explosion protection concept as part of the risk assessment based on the planning documents. In addition to the lowest possible investment costs, the focus here is on simple handling, operability and maintenance.

Services of the contractor

The explosion protection concept that we prepare on the basis of the planning documents sent to us is divided into the following points:

  • General information
  • Process description
  • Substance data and safety data
  • Risk assessment / protection concept
  • Catalogue of measures
  • Organisational measures

In the area of general information, it is primarily a question of information on the essential parts of the installation and the demarcation from neighbouring installations.
The process description includes the recording of all process steps and equipment relating to explosion protection. This includes handling and monitoring.
In the point of substance data and safety parameters, the safety parameters for the relevant flammable or combustible substances are defined and listed.
The next step is to develop a protection concept in tabular form. This is based on the technical regulations for explosion protection such as DIN EN 1127 and technical rules. As part of a risk assessment, the following points are examined and worked out:

  • Measures to prevent or restrict hazardous explosive mixtures (PGI)/zoning
  • Measures to prevent ignition of the PGI by effective ignition sources
  • Measures to control explosions by means of constructive protective measures

As a result of the concept, a list of organizational measures for the later user is provided, which are to be included in the operating instructions.

After the document has been handed over to the client as a draft, all points are discussed by telephone.
Finally, the final explosion protection concept is created as a PDF file.

Required documents

The documents required for processing are listed in detail in the offer. If you have any questions in advance, please contact us by phone or e-mail.

On-site appointments

On-site appointments are difficult to implement in the current situation. Despite the possibility of video inspections, a plant inspection without an on-site appointment is always difficult and certainly only useful in individual cases. We will continue – under certain conditions – to visit your facility even in the current situation. Please refer to our internal guidelines as to which requirements must be met for such an inspection. Here you will find the corresponding concept.
